The What
Fly by Night was written by Will Connolly, Michael Mitnick, and Kim Rosenstock and is a pop style musical that brings out lots fun chances to create many lighting moments! Lauren Van Andel and I co-designed lighting for this musical at JBU and it was a blast to figure out how to design a full musical inside of one of JBU’s smallest venues, Jones Recital Hall.
The How
Our first limitation was the capacity of the dimming system inside of the venue. This is where all theatrical shows were performed before the Berry Performing Arts Center was built at JBU. Because of this, it has very aged infrastructure such as Strand Lighting dimming racks, ellipsoidal, and fresnels.
